Bengkel International Mathematical Olympiad (BIMO)
The International Matematical Olympiad is a six-problem mathematical olympiad for high school students. Every year, many countries send teams of 6 students to compete, including Malaysia. In our country, the selection process is through the Olimpiad Matematik Kebangsaan competition. Those who have done well in the contest would be shortlisted to take a selection test, where 60 students would be invited to the five-day-four-night BIMO training camp held at Pusat PERMATApintar, UKM. This year, the workshop was held from 20 December to 24 December 2014 and 23 January to 27 January 2015.
One of the students in our club, Tan Bing Chieh, was shortlisted to attend the BIMO 2015 camp. In the camp, lectures on the four topics IMO questions are based on (Combinatorics, Number Theory, Algebra and Geometry) were given by ex-IMO participants.
The BIMO camp is certainly worth a go if you get chosen, as you can learn a lot about olympiad maths.
